"Lynch him in a back alley"

Golf Channel Anchor Kelly Tilghman Says Young Golfers Should 'Lynch Tiger Woods' - I am missing why this didn't blow up in the headlines that caused her to lose her job or be punished. She apologies to Tiger and all is well? Hellooooooo!! LYNCH? How is making a joke about lynching a black man - even if he doesn't fully accept it - funny and okay for a professional anchor to say on air?

Tilghman made a shocking comment during Friday's telecast of the PGA Tour's opening event. She said -- on the air -- that today's young players should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley."

What was Tilghman thinking? Who knows. It's not entirely clear what point Tilghman was trying to make with what she apparently thought was a joke, but she may have been trying to say that the only chance today's young players will ever have of overtaking Woods as the No. 1 golfer in the world is to hurt him. Hilarious.

According to New York's Newsday, a spokesman for the Golf Channel said Tilghman apologized during Sunday's broadcast and has "reached out to Woods' representatives to express her regrets for the comments."

Apologizing and reaching out is better than nothing, but it's rather surprising that the apology took two days and that in the era of Don Imus, so little attention has been paid to this comment. It's hard to understand how a person who would use such a poor choice of words is in the broadcasting business.

You know I don't believe in everything in the world being politcaly correct or anything. And I am certainly not that liberal. But what this reporter said was beyond any of that. It was down right racist and wrong! Very wrong! If she had been speaking about Arnold Palmer would she had used the same phrase? Makes you wonder doesn't it? It would have been funny to say something like you should hide Tiger's golf clubs or take his pants from his locker or something harmless and funny. However, lynching and a black person in the same sentence? Really not very smart, nice or polite is it? And what is with the "back alley" part??? Gee no trees available? Man, this so tees me off and I am white. I believe she should actually be fired. Anyone in the public eye and especially any reporter or newscaster, who's comments are heard everywhere on radio, tv, in the print media and the internet should have more tact, dignity and decorum than that. Let's not forget to mention brains either! How insulting! Goes to show that somehow in her background or upbringing there lies some real bigotry if you ask me. Those types of words just don't tumble out of someone's "innocent" mind do they? Really shamefull behavior and she is a disgrace frankly to the Golf Channel.

Forgot to add: If Tiger was Jewish would it be okay to say, gee maybe you should gas him? It's the same thing and just as inexcusable isn't it? I hope they fire her. I really do.

I'm sorry but this whole thing is a bit ridiculous to me. After watching the clip a number of times it is clear that there is no ill intent at all. As well, this comment does not carry the same racial slander as comments like Imus' which was particularly disgusting. Some times a joke(provided that it is not that explicit, like this wasn't) during conversation is just a joke and does not need racial barometers attached.

your a moron if you think this is offensive! 90% of people in american don't even know what lynch means. This is the stupidest thing ever that she would get suspended for that comment.

90% of all Americans don't know the meaning of the word "lynch"? What a moron remark that was!! I guess English nor American History are not one of your strong suits are they? It doesn't matter if something you do or say is an accident. If it's wrong, it's wrong. And you need to be held accountable for all of your actions, words and deeds. Besides the first poster who made the top two comments, who actually gets why this is wrong and she is white, so bravo, the rest of you are sadly clueless. Offensive is offensive. Bigotry is bigotry. It's that simple. It's ridicoulous that in 2008 a journalist in the public eye, in front of millions of people, is allowed to make such a statement and most white people don't even see the issue of why it is so wrong. I feel sorry for all you. No wonder nothing ever changes in this country and kids are brought up not knowing what is wrong and what is right and just to stand by and never speak up against anything that matters. Sad, really sad! And to the other moron who states that people say worse things in movies and on tv......so that makes whatever they say and do okay? You really are an idiot if you believe that.
